Most Common Dental Emergencies

big, red help button

Whether you’re very diligent about following your dentist’s instructions for brushing and flossing or you tend to be forgetful when it comes to your oral health, dental emergencies can happen. Which ones do dentists tend to address most commonly?

1. Toothaches (Swelling, Bleeding, Inflammation)

If you have swollen or bleeding gums, you may have gum disease. When plaque and bacteria gets trapped in your gums (most commonly due to lack of brushing), your gums will get irritated and swollen. As the bacteria spreads around the tooth, you can be susceptible to developing periodontal disease, or aggressive gum disease, which leads to tooth decay and loss. To prevent gum disease, we recommend that you brush properly and regularly, floss daily, and schedule dental cleanings every six months.

If the gums around your wisdom teeth are bleeding or swelling, it is probably time to have your wisdom teeth removed to prevent the development of gum disease in those harder to reach places. At Ace Dental Roseville, we offer a few sedation options to ensure that you are completely at ease during the procedure.

2. Broken or Knocked Out Teeth

Had an accident and broke a tooth as a result? Your smile isn’t permanently ruined. Dental bonding is a great solution to help fix a chipped or broken tooth. A resin made of biocompatible substances, such as glass and plastic, is applied to the affected tooth and essentially forms a strong chemical bond. It’s effective and, best of all, inexpensive.

While dental bonds can remedy many cases, some other emergencies may require a more extensive procedure, such as a crown or veneer. Ace Dental Roseville offers all three, and Dr. Sibia can help you determine which treatment option is best for your case.

If you’ve knocked out a tooth, save the tooth and call our office immediately. We have the best chance of getting your tooth back into the socket successfully if you see us within an hour of losing your tooth.

3. Injury to Mouth, Tongue, Or Jaw

If you have hurt your mouth, tongue, or jaw, you must see a dentist or surgeon as soon as possible. We can take your x-rays and help you determine how to proceed with your injury without putting your teeth at risk.

If you have a dental emergency, Ace Dental Roseville provides top-notch emergency dental care in the Sacramento area.
